Secure Print IPP Queues

HP Insights includes a universal print driver that’s built on the IPP Everywhere standard, which is a widely adopted printing protocol. This universal driver allows users to print easily and consistently on almost any printer, no matter the manufacturer. The compatibility spans from small, single-function personal printers to larger, multifunctional devices used by workgroups in offices. This flexibility means users don't need to worry about having specific drivers for different printer models, simplifying the printing process across various devices and environments.

For HP Insights, the default driver is Manufacturer Driver. If preferred, IT administrators have the option to set up secure queues to use the IPP driver. This can be achieved by updating the Secure Queue Settings for Deployment section within the Print Scout Configuration tool.

Note: For existing customers, the upgrade process will retain the current driver setup (whether IPP Driver or Windows Driver). However, if you want to change the driver type (for example, switching from an IPP driver to a Windows driver or vice versa), you’ll need to uninstall the existing Print Scout and install the latest version provided in the most recent release.

Key features of the HP IPP Driver:

  • Print jobs are submitted to the printers using IPP or IPPS
  • Does not require printer manufacturers' drivers
  • Supports paper size selection, double-sided print mode, color or black and white printing, page ranges, multiple copies, and advanced finishing options like stapling and “n-up.”

Supported Clients

64-bit Microsoft Windows 10 or later

Note: 32-bit versions are not supported.

Print Scout Configuration Default Settings

The Print Scout Configuration tool includes the Secure Queue Settings for Deployment section, providing IT admins with the option to configure the driver type for the HP secure queue. It also facilitates the creation of default finishing options for the secure queue.

There are two driver types to choose from:

  • IPP Class DriverThis will set the secure queue to use the HP IPP Driver.
  • Manufacturer DriverThis is the default option for new installs. This will set up the secure queue to use HP Universal Printing PCL 6 driver.

Note: If your organization does not have a HP Secure Print license, the Secure Queue Settings for Deployment section will be greyed out.

The default finishing options (i.e., print settings) for an IPP queue depend on how they are configured in the Print Scout Configuration Tool. Users can change the finishing options before sending their print job to a printer.
